Retaining Wall Construction

A retaining wall lets you reclaim lost space by carving usable outdoor areas out of sloping ground: level space for a new garden bed, lawn, patio, outdoor cooking area, or parking. We design and build retaining walls in block, timber, fieldstone, brick, and natural stone, from a 30-foot stacked block wall along the edge of your home to larger, more complicated walls for terraced properties.

Drainage is where most retaining walls fail. Walls that hold back earth also hold back water, and the resulting hydrostatic pressure can bulge or collapse a poorly built wall. Every wall we build incorporates proper drainage, including lateral drains, French drains, weeping drains, blanket drains, or granular backfill, so it lasts.

We also handle the permit side. In most of Bakersfield, walls under 3 feet generally don't require permits; walls 3 feet and over generally do, and anything over 6 feet requires a permit plus an engineered design. When we view your property we'll tell you exactly which building codes apply to your situation, and where required we work directly with engineers or use pre-engineered systems.
